Chapter 19
Becca had to admit that her best friendâsâ¦
Noâ¦GIRLfriend, remember!
â¦that her girlfriendâs weirdo comment about coming to a restaurant theyâve been to at least once a week for four years felt different now. Why that was, she couldnât put her finger on. Maybe it was because now there was a Before and After to everything she did with Krissy from this point forward. Roosevelt Pizza may be the exact same restaurant it always has been, but Before, Krissy was just a friend Becca was hanging out with to eat decadent pizza, both of them complaining about how theyâd need to run twenty miles to burn off all the calories. Now, she and Krissy were here on a date.
Becca supposed everywhere they went from now on would be classified as a date, with all the weight and responsibilities that word entailed. Thus, Roosevelt Pizza, though exactly the same as always, felt different somehow. Before, it was just their favorite restaurant. Now, After, it was their favorite restaurantâBeccaâs and Krissyâs. The couple.
The owner recognized Becca from recent news coverage and insisted on buying their lunch, despite Beccaâs protestations. This was a perk of her fifteen minutes of fame that she was completely uncomfortable with. However, when the owner joked that he might need Becca one day to save him from the roof of a burning building, she felt it would be rude not to accept his offer.
At their table, waiting for the food to arrive, Becca quipped, âWell, looks like every time I take you out on a date and offer to pay, Iâll be able to just get it for free.â
âYou didnât offer to pay, though,â Krissy pointed out.
âYou didnât hear me earlier back at the house?â Becca asked. âI said, âSince this is our first date, Iâll pay.ââ
âYou said no such thing.â
âYou just werenât paying attention,â Becca told her, continuing her game. âNow, for our second dateâwhich youâll pay forâI suggest Mortonâs in San Diego.â
Krissyâs eyes went wide.
âThatâs, like, a two-hundred-and-fifty dollar date!â she said. She sat back and crossed her arms. âIâd better be getting lucky after that one.â
Becca pretended to be offended.
âDo you think Iâm that type of girl?â she asked.
Krissy quirked an eyebrow.
âYou were that type of girl last night,â she said. âAnd Bluewater Grill is no Mortonâs.â
âLast night wasnât a date, sweetie,â Becca pointed out. âIf you want more of that actionâ¦you have to step it up now.â
Krissy suddenly leaned forward, arms on the table.
âBy the way,â she began, âI donât know about you, but I thought we were amazing together last night. But I always knew we would be.â
Becca also leaned forward and now their faces were inches apart. Even just the mention of last night made her nipples hard.
âWe were amazing,â she concurred. âLike, holy fuck, Krissyâ¦â
âYeah?â
âYeah.â Becca stroked Krissyâs shoulder. She wanted this conversation to heat up. Rapidly. âGetting to finally taste you made me come so hard.â
âOh, fuck, Becs,â Krissy murmured. âAnd the sounds you make...â
âIs that right?â
âIt is. You know what else?â
Becca leaned a little closer.
